  • Effleurage
  • Deep petrissage
  • Compression involving the digits, fists and forearm
  • Friction
  • Vibration
  • Squeezing
  • Joint mobilisation and stretching

What are the benefits of Deep Tissue Massage?

How often do we find ourselves uncomfortable sitting at our desks at work, suffering from back pain? Leg pain? Shoulder pain? Neck pain? Our day to day posture, especially if we force our bodies to remain in stiff, uncomfortable positions for long periods of time can bring on what is known as ischemia. This is a term that describes the effects of inadequate blood supply to an organ or part of the body. When we  impede blood flow, we also impede the way that part of the body functions and this also applies to our soft tissues such as our muscles, ligaments and fascia. Muscles can become weak or hypertonic and trigger points can develop.

Our slow Deep Tissue Massage focuses on inducing deep relaxation to problem areas. We believe that through compressing and gently mobilising the soft tissue we can help to reduce muscle spasm and soreness, feel-good factor and a sense of wellbeing.

Benefits include:

  • Stretching of muscles and fascia
  • Decreased tone within the muscles
  • Successful treatment of trigger points
  • Positive sensation for clients who prefer a massage with deeper pressure

Who is this treatment is suitable for?

This treatment is suited to anyone who is looking for a deep feeling of relaxation, or those who have tense or sore areas such as the back and shoulders. At Jenkins Therapy, we believe that the body and mind are connected. If you are suffering from acute pain or discomfort or have had a particularly stressful week in work, our Deep Tissue Massage can help to reduce the tension, work out adhesions and get you ready for the week ahead.

Will this massage be uncomfortable?

Although the aim of this massage is to induce deep relaxation, you should be aware that you might feel some discomfort during your treatment. However, intense pain results in increased endorphins and momentary tension across the whole body and so we always remind our clients to keep an open line of communication with their therapist. Your therapist will work with you and adjust the treatment according to your preference to ensure that you feel comfortable at all times.

What differentiates a Deep Tissue Massage from other treatments?

Our Deep Tissue Massage offers you an in-depth massage and you also have the benefit of receiving your treatment from a Therapist who has an advanced understanding of soft tissue anatomy and physiology. Our Sports Massage is applied in a sporting context and involves techniques such as Soft Tissue Release, Muscle Energy Technique and Neuromuscular Technique. It also involves elements of deep tissue massage, but its primary purpose is to assist in preparing you for your sporting event, aiding recovery and supporting you towards reaching and maintaining your peak level of fitness.
